Petition

In prayers of petition we ask for physical and spiritual goods to aid us in our earthly life.

Prayer with a specific form and words. The steadfast prayers perfect for when you are at a loss

for words or feel like you can't think.  It's structure can lead to contemplative prayer.

Our Father

Rosary

Anima Christi

Prayer to St. Joseph

Intercession of Mary

Litany of Sacred Heart

Extemporaneous prayer without an established plan or structure.

Being honest with what you are feeling, experiencing and thinking while presenting it to the Lord.

Use "breath prayers" and turn a thought into a prayer.

For example, "Lord, be with me", "Holy Spirit, give me words" "How am I suppose to help this person?"

It can take the form of any kind of communication: talking, crying, singing, yelling, writing.

- More than just words.

- Move deeper from discursive prayer (words) to affective prayer (coming from the heart).

Bringing an awareness of your connection and relationship to your words.

This is applicable to both formal and informal prayers.

- Practice both vocal and mental prayer. Vocal = outloud. Mental = visualizing Christ listening to you.

- Change up how you pray a prayer. For example, the rosary can be prayed while lying in bed, along

with a recording, as a living rosary, with coloring pages, adding fruits of the mysteries, etc.

Some prayers already have melodies written to it's words.

Our Father

Regina Caeli

Hail Mary

I encourage you to learn some of these songs,

and then, write your own melody for a prayer you like.
